New Years

Dec. 28 was the very last Friday of 2018.

Whatta year it's been. Changes, ups, downs, all arounds. But what a ride. I'm happy to be back hosting here at CFCR, especially in this slot where I get to interact with awesome people and interview them on air.

I spoke with Ellen Froese, Bandswap coordinator on Friday about the awesome event, in its 13th year. Amigos was hoppin' as eight bands with random and talented musicians graced the stages covering everything from Kenny Loggins, Spice Girls, Toto and so much more. 100% of the proceeds went to charity, looking forward to hearing the total!

As for the music...

Hi, hi!

I also took a few moments to acknowledge a major loss to the arts and journalism community here in Saskatoon. The StarPhoenix's Cam Fuller, who had been with the paper since 1989, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20. He was known for his contagiously fun spirit, witty and wry writing style and his patronage to everything arts-related in the city, CFCR included. My social media feed was filled with memories about this wonderful man, from those who knew him well, colleagues in the field, and everyone in between. Here are some great tributes, and a whimsical video from Christmas 2010 he made with Stephanie McKay:

Well, I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Take care of yourselves, and talk to you on Dec. 28 when we'll be chatting all things Bandswap XIII.

much love,

Bright Sized Life

Hi there!

So the Nov. 23 of the Friday Buzz was another fun one! I had former-Texan, current Qu'Appelle Valley resident Brian Baggett on the show. He performed on Friday at McNally Robinson's Prairie Ink, and also did an in-studio performance as well. He's a unique musician and plays a 10-string, double-barrel guitar called a Chapman stick... look it up, it's cool!

Also, I was lucky enough to have a phone chat with Grant Lawrence, lead singer of the Smugglers. I was only able to play about 5 minutes during my live show, but you can check out the entire 10 minutes HERE!

The band was in town Saturday, Nov. 24 to help cap off a great month of 30th anniversary celebrations at Amigos Cantina. Also on the bill was Calgary's Chixdiggit and Saskatoon's sweet sisterly trio, the Garrys.

Here's a couple videos of the Smugglers from the Saturday show:

On the Sunny Side of the Street

Well, hello!

A year and a half later, I'm back!

I had a great career opportunity in the north part of the province, but another amazing one made me get on running back to Saskatoon.

I've been back since September, and have been busy settling back into the ToonTown groove. I've attended a great number of shows since, which is one of the many things I missed about living here.

Also, I'm back hosting, but in a different time slot. I feel lucky to have this opportunity as I am hosting the Friday Buzz, which allows me to interview bands who have gigs in Saskatoon over the weekend.

Friday, Nov. 9 was my first show, and I met several members of Winnipeg's JD and the Sunshine Band.

Playlist for Nov. 9/18
Winter Winds - JD and the Sunshine Band
On the Sunny Side of the Street - JD and the Sunshine Band
I'm Just Waiting for My Time - The Sheepdogs*

Heart Attack - Tune-Yards/Sylvan Esso

On this week's Friday Buzz, I'll be chatting with the Sex Geckos about their weekend show.
